Organising outsourced workers in UK’s new trade unionism - emotions, protest, and collective identity

Drawing on the literature of social movements and emotions, this article analyses a case union-led movement against outsourcing in UK. Our focus is emotional processes collective identity formation culture new grassroot unions, addressing themes culture, political solidarity. Data consists participant observations, interviews, additional website media material. The results show that unions characterised by direct action based proud re-centring BAME workers as subjects labour struggles. Key consist sharing emotions humiliation, anger, exclusion, but also joy feelings A crucial part movement’s expansion due to construction solidarity coalition-building. demonstrate importance heeding mobilising power shared analysis unions. contributes research with an enhanced understanding immaterial claims dignity, respect care, alongside cognitivist material work conditions rights.
